Elements and Purpose of Journalism

               

Journalism is the activity writing or preparing news for magazine, or newspaper, or the other media to be broadcasting. People who have profession of journalism are journalist. Journalism is the practice of investigation and reporting of events, issues, and trends to a broad audience. (Wikipedia)

             The purpose of journalism is not defined by technology or by journalists or the techniques they employ. Rather, the purpose and principles of journalism are defined by something wore basic: the function news plays in the lives of people.                 The purpose of journalism is providing citizens with the information they need to make the best possible decisions about their lives their communities, their societies and their governments.

               

The elements of journalism        :

1.       1. Journalism’s first obligation is to the truth.

Journalists should be as transparent as possible about sources and methods so audiences can make their own assessment of the information.

2.      2.  It must provide a forum for public criticism and compromise.

The news media are common carriers of public discussion, and this responsibility forms a basis for specials privileges that news and information providers receive from democratic societies.

3.     3.   It must keep the news comprehensive and proportional.

Keeping news in proportion is a based on truthfulness. The comprehensive include all affected communities. Though proportion and comprehensive are subjective, their ambiguity does not lesson their significance.

4.      4.  It must strive to keep the significant interesting and relevant.

Journalism is storytelling with a purpose. It should do more than gather an audience or catalogue the important. It must balance what readers know they want with what they can not anticipate but need.

News is that part of communication that keeps us informed of the events, issues, and characters in the world outside. Thought it may be interesting, the value of news is as a utility to empower the informed.
